My sister and I recently attended a UGA-Arkansas football game together. After I dropped her off at home in Rincon, Georgia, I saw a sign on the side of the road as I was leaving her neighborhood. It said, “Best Lemonade for $1.” A young man was standing under a tent cover, holding up a red solo cup as I drove by. I stopped and turned around to buy me a cup of that best lemonade.
As the young man approached my jeep, I saw his mom and dad standing in the background watching everything that was going on with the business deal. I asked him his name and he told meit was Isaac. Isaac was probably about 10 years old, and his sister was his business partner. She was about 6 years old. I asked Isaac why his lemonade was the best in the world, and he told me because he made it himself. If I were a betting man, I’d say mom had something to do with the production process.
I handed Isaac a $10 bill and said, “Listen, I don’t need anything right now, because I have this Coke in my hand. But you can give out a cup of that special lemonade to the next 10 people.”He said, “You want me to give them something for FREE?” He could not believe this!
Most of us think just like Isaac when it comes to where we are in life. I remember driving the car my parents gave me, going off to college and having the time of my life. I did a little studying and made decisions that I thought cost me nothing. At the time, I didn’t have the maturity to understand that someone has to pay for anything of value, either now or later.
I am a person of faith. Knowing this helps me realize that when my physical life ends, I will be in a placed called Heaven. Someone had to pay the price for my sins and the separation of my relationship with God. This person was Jesus Christ. He paid for our relationship with him through his sacrificial death on a blood-soaked cross at a place called Calvary.
Just like Isaac said, “You want me to give them something for FREE?” Yes! And with Christ, all they have to do is stop and ask for it.
So do what I did — turn your jeep around and go back to the best drink you will ever have. It’s labeled the “Living Water of Eternal Life.”
Live inspired,
Jimmy
