SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) Shakuria Smith – The legacy of a local nursing student, whose life was taken in 2015, is living on by helping 28 students gain a college education.
The Abbie DeLoach foundation honored this year’s scholarship recipients with a luncheon on Friday.
The luncheon was held at the Savannah Golf Club, where 28 students from across Georgia were awarded scholarships for their achievements in academics, leadership, service, and athletics.
Organizers said this year marked the largest scholarship class since the foundation was established in 2016.
Who created the foundation?
The Abbie DeLoach Foundation was created in memory of Abbie DeLoach, a nursing student whose life was tragically cut short in a multi-vehicle crash in 2015.
Family members said Abbie was known for her compassion, strong faith, and commitment to helping others—values that continue to guide the foundation’s mission today.
Through its scholarship program, the foundation aims to support students who reflect those same qualities and are making a positive impact in their communities.
During the event, foundation president Jimmy DeLoach, Abbie’s father, joined scholarship recipients in celebrating their accomplishments and sharing the importance of continuing her legacy.
Organizers said the luncheon served as both a celebration of student success and a reminder of the lasting impact one life can have on others.
