Student Athletes
Abbie’s Love For Athletics
A 2012 graduate of Savannah Christian Preparatory School, Abbie was an excellent student and standout athlete, lettering in basketball, volleyball and track. Abbie also excelled in intramurals at Georgia Southern, winning her share of championships.
Understanding the transformational impact of athletics for student’s lives from her father, it is no surprise Abbie would find her passion on the basketball and volleyball court as well.
Recognizing Student Athletes
The Foundation recognizes the student athlete’s time commitment to their studies and to sports. The Abbie Deloach Foundation awards scholarships to male and female student athletes at Georgia Southern University and Savannah State University.
The student athletes are from the Savannah and surrounding areas. They are nominated by their coaches, athletic directors and have earned their role and recognition as a impact player or future player.
Endeavoring to receive a college education
Jimmy DeLoach, Abbie’s Father, was a walk-on member of the football team at the University of Georgia, a UGA Football Coaching Assistant for the Freshman Team, coached at Norcross and Gainesville Highschool, and ended his coaching career under Georgia Southern’s Erk Russell as a Linebacker Coach, winning two National Championships.
“I happened to remember that when Georgia Southern started recruiting kids. I remembered the only escape they had was an education through athletics,” said DeLoach. “I remembered that and I thought, ‘If I ever get in a position where I can help someone become better today than they were yesterday, I’m going to do that.’”
