Throughout the month of July, I will be writing about what we learned as people and a nation about freedom of choice from the COVID-19 epidemic here in the United States.
As I researched information to learn more about numbers from data, I could only think about how COVID-19 affected my little part of the world and the people who were immediately touched by its deadly infection.
Here is how I started to get it closer to home — to make it as real as possible as I wrote this blog.
Total number of deaths from COVID-19 as of June 28, 2021:
Global 3,942,149
United States 693,438
Chatham County, Georgia 463
My circle of friends 15
The reality of the pandemic caused me to reflect on the one thing we are guaranteed in life. When asked, some will respond with taxes as an answer, while others will say a life of suffering, a lack of resources or death. I agree with death as a response, but I feel it needs to be divided into two different avenues. One answer does not fit all.
One type of death is physical. According to science, physical death is the irreversible cessation of all vital functions, especially of the heart, respiration and brain activity.
Another type of death is spiritual. As a follower of Jesus Christ,I have faith that when I die a physical death, I will continue in a spiritual form in a place called heaven. I will be there with people who have only died a physical death and not a spiritual one.
So, coming back to the original question: What is the one thing you are guaranteed in life? I believe the answer ultimately is choice, not death. You can choose freedom with Jesus as your Lord and Savior, which will give your life more freedom than the Constitution or Declaration of Independence provide —which we celebrated this past Sunday as citizens of the United States.
Many people died for our freedoms here in America. Jesus Christ also sacrificed his life for your spiritual freedom, and He offers it to you as a choice only you can make.
Live inspired,
Jimmy
