The Abbie DeLoach Foundation (ADF) was honored with the prestigious Georgia Southern President’s Ambassador Award for 2025 during a special ceremony held on Friday, March 29th. The award, which recognizes outstanding community leaders and organizations that have made significant contributions to Georgia Southern University and its mission, was presented to the ADF team in recognition of their unwavering commitment to supporting local youth, education, and mental health initiatives.
The award ceremony, attended by various dignitaries, faculty, and supporters, was a momentous occasion for the Foundation, founded in memory of Abbie DeLoach, a young woman whose life and legacy have inspired countless individuals in the community. The ADF’s work has made a lasting impact in the region.
In an emotional and heartfelt speech, Jimmy DeLoach, founder of the Abbie DeLoach Foundation and father of Abbie, accepted the award on behalf of the entire ADF team. Reflecting on his personal journey and the importance of support from others, Jimmy shared a powerful message with the audience.
“I came to Georgia Southern almost 40 years ago because someone took a chance on me,” DeLoach began, addressing the crowd. “We’re all standing on the shoulders of people who have helped us, who have dug us out. If not for these people, we’d be in a very dark and lonely place.”
DeLoach went on to express his deep gratitude for the people who have shaped his life and supported him through his challenges. “The people I have to recognize and are the most precious gifts are my mom, my wife Maria, who I’ve been married to for five years,” he continued. “Maria taught me that you have to love yourself before you can love others. I was able to do that and piece my life back together.”
Jimmy also took a moment to recognize the unwavering support of his daughter Anna, who has been a source of hope and inspiration, and his brother Eddie, whose presence has always been a guiding force. The heartfelt acknowledgments highlighted the deep sense of family and community that lies at the heart of the Abbie DeLoach Foundation.
